The Student Leader Advocates of Music (SLAM!) works with local underprivileged high schools to run afterschool music programs. They offer classes in beginning/intermediate guitar— beginning/intermediate piano— percussion— rock band— and voice. The UCLA volunteers work in teams with a lead instructor designing each week’s curriculum— with an assistant instructor aiding the lead in any way they can. The classes last about an hour and a half and occur once a week— culminating in a performance by the students at the end of each quarter.
