Carthay Environmental Studies Stem Magnet Elementary
Carthay Environmental Studies Magnet PTA is the parent volunteer-led organization for Carthay Elementary, a public school. Our students travel from all over Los Angeles, including underserved areas, to participate in our environmental studies program. Our families represent the diversity of Los Angeles and speak over a dozen different languages from around the world including Spanish, Punjabi, Filipino, Russian, Korean, and Hebrew. More than half of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch.
Their Mission: Carthay School of Environmental Studies Magnet is the only ETK-5th grade magnet elementary school in the LAUSD that combines the sciences and the humanities in an educational program centered on society and the environment. Environmental Studies is a broad, comprehensive field of study that engages students in real life explorations and gives them the skills and abilities they need to be active participants in improving quality of life for themselves and future generations.
Our Environmental Studies & STEM Magnet Elementary School is home to a thriving school garden and orchard—and we need your help to keep them blooming! Join us for a hands-on volunteer day to support the maintenance and expansion of these vibrant spaces. Volunteer tasks include prepping raised beds for our garden and cooking classes, caring for native and pollinator-attracting plants, repairing water features, caring for our hydroponic towers, creating outdoor seating for student learning, and sprucing up our beloved chicken coop and fencing. No green thumb required—just a love of nature, community, and education. Come get your hands in the dirt and make a meaningful difference for our students and communities!"
