Brentwood Council Tree Planting

The iconic coral trees along the San Vicente Boulevard median carry a rich history tied to West Los Angeles transit. In the early 20th century, the median served as a route for the Pacific Electric "Red Car" streetcar line, which was decommissioned and dismantled in the 1940s.

In recent years, however, environmental stress, irrigation issues, and gopher infestations have led to a decline in the health of these trees. Echoing the spirit of the 1950s Los Angeles Beautiful movement, several community groups are coming together to safeguard their future. The Brentwood Community Council, Los Angeles City Council District 11, the Brentwood Homeowners Association, and the Coral Tree Crew have formed a joint initiative to educate the public on the importance of preserving these living landmarks that define the 90049 community.

During the project, members of the Coral Tree Crew will share a brief presentation on the historical significance of the trees before guiding volunteers in applying mulch and providing essential care to help these iconic trees thrive.

(Please be aware that the time listed is for the actual service project. If you are taking the bus to the project site, we will ask volunteers to meet at a central location beginning at 7am for breakfast and to account for travel time to the project site.)
