The Leadership and Educational Advancement Program (LEAP) is a mentoring and tutoring program at Bethune Middle School and 75th Street Elementary School, both in which are in South Central, Los Angeles. We strive for personal growth, student achievement, and a college going mentality for our service recipients.
Our weekly sites for each school include educational activities, sports, and a portion set aside for tutoring. LEAP is a student-run organization and we as volunteers have the opportunity to incorporate our own majors to our activities. For example, having an undergraduate student who is a physics major, he was able to teach students how to build robots out of an electric toothbrush. Being in LEAP enhances your leadership skills, public speaking, social interaction with the youth, and ability to facilitate activities as well as discussions. But you also build long lasting friendships with the service recipients at LEAP.
If you’re interested in making a direct positive impact in a student’s life and interested in education, then LEAP is for you!
