Program Description: EmpowHer Girls Program matches middle school girls (mentees) and professional women, who act as mentors. A mentor is described as a mature woman over the age of 21 who is a professional or businesswoman who will provide the child guidance, advice, and the opportunity for experiences in career choices, educational opportunities, academic areas, and cultural activities. The mentor assigned to the child is a volunteer. Monthly meetings are held during the school day on campus, field trips are planned that are school sponsored during the week. Mentees are encouraged to maintain a journal and a notebook of their activities. Mentors encourage the mentees to attend class, participate in activities and do well in their academic classes. EmpowHer organizes workshops and seminars that cover everything from women’s health, to budgeting, to college opportunities.
