Volunteer Day 2017 – Event Schedule

Posted on September 15th, 2017

On Saturday, October 7th, thousands of incoming students will participate in service projects at over 30 sites across Greater Los Angeles.  It will be UCLA’s 9th annual Volunteer Day. To help you make the most of the day, the Center has detailed the schedule of the day’s events.

Share your stories using #BruinsGiveBack throughout the day and learn how students, staff, faculty, alumni, parents, and UCLA community members are making a difference by following the Volunteer Center on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Finally, enter the Volunteer Day photo contest for a chance to win a number of prizes. Thank you for your service, Bruins!

Breakfast and Bus Loading | October 7, 7 – 9 am
Breakfast and bus loading for new freshmen and transfer students will begin as early as 7 am. Freshmen and new transfer students living on the Hill will wake up on the morning of Volunteer Day, eat breakfast at the dining halls (DeNeve, Covel, B-Plate, and Hedrick Study), and head to the bus loading zones at Hedrick Hall or Carnesale for check-in. Incoming students living off-campus should arrive at the predetermined bus loading zones at Hedrick Hall or Carnesale Commons by 8:00 am. To register for the event visit your MyUCLA portal.

Volunteering | October 7, 10 am – 2 pm
By 10:00 am, all 65 buses will have departed from UCLA’s campus to take over 3,000 students to over 30 community partner sites. After a morning of gardening, painting, mentoring, and more, students will return to campus before 2pm.

On-campus Service Opportunity | October 7, 11:30 am – 1 pm at the James West Alumni Center
On campus, the Volunteer Center will be hosting a service event in the James West Alumni Center. From 11:00 am – 1 pm, UCLA affiliates and community members will write letters to U.S. Service Members through Operation Gratitude and assemble hats for children with cancer for Hats off for Cancer.
