Join the UCLA Volunteer Center and the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) for a day of service, on March 3, 2012 from 9:30 am until 3:00 pm, at the Ramona Gardens satellite library in East Los Angeles.
HACLA has been working on opening a satellite library located at the Ramona Gardens public housing community after learning that children feared crossing the street to use a city library for fear of rival gang activity. This project is part of the Authority’s comprehensive Education Initiative to ensure that youth from our communities are provided with building blocks for a brighter future.
Volunteers will participate in a variety of activities from painting, sorting books, and reading to local children in order to help prepare the library for its opening in mid-March. By providing much needed preparation and care, this library will soon be open and serving the needs of students in the Ramona Gardens community. This day of service will allow residents to help provide educational resources to underserved youth while enjoying the company of other UCLA volunteers and community members.
Thank you for your support and enthusiasm.
