Joanne Kang is a fourth year Cognitive Science major and has been tutoring with Project SPELL since her freshman year. She found her love of teaching early in life when she began teaching children in underserved communities how to read. Apart from Project SPELL, she is involved with the Human Perception Laboratory on campus in which she mostly programs experiments. In her down time, she enjoys learning new languages and watching good TV!
Quyen Bach is a third year Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology major. She is the current Vice President of the Student Committee and has been a SPELL tutor for four quarters. She loves helping both tutors and learners find their footing in the program and is passionate about civic engagement, in general. Quyen is also a volunteer for the UCLA Dental Clinic, where she is able to observe and learn from the dental students, whose place she hopes to be in one day. In her spare time, Quyen enjoys listening to jazz music and cooking or–better yet–listening to jazz music while cooking.
While at UCLA, Natalie Slama is a third year Physiological Science major. Aside from Project SPELL, she is part of the leadership team of Operation Mend Undergraduate Association. She has been a tutor for Project SPELL since Winter Quarter 2013 and is excited to continue supporting the UCLA community and its workers as part of Project SPELL. In her free time, she enjoys backpacking, reading, and exploring.
Andrea Reyes is a second year Psychology major and Spanish minor. She had been involved with Best Buddies as a college buddy for people with disabilities. As part of Project SPELL, she has been a tutor for a UCLA employee, tutoring 16 hours per quarter. She is excited to make a positive impact.
Christie Groth Christie is a fourth year Psychobiology student who aspires to become a doctor in the near future. Not only is she passionate about the science of life, but she is also an avid jogger, is heavily into nutrition and wellness, and loves to spend a Friday night out at dinner or the movies. She loves to surround herself with others and enrich the lives of those around her, one of the many reasons as to why she decided to join Project SPELL in the winter of 2013.
